Congratulations on taking the first steps in your journey of
self discovery. Finding a therapist that is right for you is very
important in insuring your success. There are over 400 types of
therapy models in existence today. Every therapist is different,
with unique personalities, educational backgrounds, and
experiences.
I am a Florida state licensed, nationally certified, Mental Health Counselor.
I completed my BS degree in Psychology from Saint Leo College in 1993.
I earned an MS degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern
University and was awarded certification as a Sex Therapist from The American
Academy of Clinical Sexology. I am currently a doctoral student, with a study focus
on Psychology and childhood sexual abuse.
I consider my therapeutic approach to be eclectic ~ in that I take from many models
and use them in ways that best fit each individual I work with. I tend to lean on a
more cognitive-behavioral approach, but often blend psycho-dynamic principles in
when working with adult survivors of childhood trauma/abuse. I view clients as
equal to me, in a collaborative partnership when working toward client goals.
Dedicated to the healing arts, my experiences include working as a Hospice
Counselor and I have worked in Community Mental Health. I am comfortable
working with a wide variety of issues to include mood and anxiety disorders, sexual
addiction, trans gender issues and couples intimacy enrichment. In addition, I have
extensive experience working with persons challenged with dissociative and trauma
related disorders.
I am a firm supporter of personal growth and the educational process.
I enjoy working with groups as well as individuals and couples. I have conducted
groups and workshops on stress and anger management, domestic violence,
bereavement, sex addiction, transsexuals in transition and trauma resolution.
Additionally, I teach in higher education as an adjunct professor.
I am a member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR), President
of The Tampa Bay Association for Women Psychotherapists (TBAWP); former
President of the Tampa Bay Study Group on Trauma and Dissociation.
