What is a "Registered Mental Health Counselor
Intern"?:
Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns have undergone rigorous training in their Masters Degree
programs that include course work in psychology, mental health disorders, counseling theories and
practice. They are knowledged on the laws and ethics that guide the profession. And, they have at least
one year pre-graduate counseling experience, working at mental health agencies as part of their academic
requirements.
Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns are highly motivated and eager to get to work in their chosen
profession. In addition to their academic training, they are actively involved in building their skills by
attending additional training specific to their counseling interests. They choose qualified, State approved
clinical supervisors who share in their specialty interests so they can improve their skills and increase their
confidence.
Clinical supervisors have received additional training in supervision and are approved by the State of
Florida. The supervisor meets with the Counselor Intern at least one hour per week to discuss cases,
provide feedback and guide the intern in their counseling practice. Additionally, a licensed counseling
professional must always be on site when the intern meets with a client.
